About David

When Nurse Next Door opened in 2009 as a way of providing the people of Mississauga with quality, customer-focussed home care, David Shaw understood that being involved in this wonderful city would always be one of the company’s pillars. At the time, the Oakville resident was working as a concierge in the airline industry, but he saw a need for personalized home care in Mississauga that would go above and beyond the government-offered programs. Through connections with friends and involvement in the Port Credit area, Mississauga had long been a part of the “blended community” in which David lived and worked. For him, the opening of Nurse Next Door was the perfect opportunity to give back to the community.

But he didn’t stop there. Finding that his company was welcomed so warmly and that people respected what they did, he recognized that the company bore a responsibility to show respect in return to the community that had taken them in by giving back in other ways.

Community involvement is in the DNA of Nurse Next Door. David knows that it is important for the corporate culture to show employees that the company is involved, not only in their lives, but in the lives of the people in the surrounding community. He and his team attribute much of their success and achievement to being involved with the community. It has also enabled them to make some wonderful friends over the years.

A few of the initiatives that he has been and continues to be a part of are: Starr’s on the Credit, the Port Credit Canada Day parade, Rotary Club of Mississauga, Mississauga Board of Trade (Ambassador), Paddle for the People, Trillium Health Partners Foundation, ‘Twas the Bite Before Christmas, and Lakeshore Corridor Community Team. He has also been a member of Peel’s 100 People Who Care group.

2019 is a very significant year for Nurse Next Door, Mississauga, as they are celebrating ten years of service. And David could think of no better way to mark such an auspicious year than participating in Community Foundation of Mississauga’s Dancing with the Mississauga Stars event, raising money for the community and having fun all at the same time. David is excited to have this opportunity to let his hair down. Although he has no dance training, David believes he has the rhythm in him. He enjoys getting out on the dance floor, especially with his special dance partner, his daughter Victoria. The experience of having one-on-one professional dance lessons is a bucket list item for David. He says that combining this with raising funds for the community makes it that much more memorable for him. David is excited to have the chance to be like Patrick Swayze, recreating the Dirty Dancing scene where he and Baby light up the dance floor. This opportunity allows him to say, “I’ve had the time of my life.”
